Excellent examples! Some examples I've come across:

1. People are "left brained" or "right brained"

2. [x] is addictive like heroin/cocaine because it activates the reward centers!

3. [x] literally changes the brain!

4. Learning Styles based on sensory modalities

etc. etc.

I love the "Seductive Allure" paper, I actually wrote my own article based off of that (and some of the examples above) a while ago: https://cognitivewonderland.substack.com/p/the-seductive-allure-of-neuro-self

Yes, all of the above! Left brain/right brain especially prominent in psychotherapy world.

I'll have a read of your "Seductive Allure".

Definitely agree! Scientific papers are hard for the lay person to read, but often info is taken from something and then it runs wild in the public, often twisting into something much different to the original idea.

Hey Natalie. Do you care to share what are some of the science or neuro-myths that irk you the most and you encounter the most in your work?

Thank you for engaging 😊

One of the more common ones is that we use only 10% of our brain. Absolutely not true! And oversimplied versions of "left brain is speaking/maths and right brain is creativity"
