Excellent examples! Some examples I've come across:

1. People are "left brained" or "right brained"

2. [x] is addictive like heroin/cocaine because it activates the reward centers!

3. [x] literally changes the brain!

4. Learning Styles based on sensory modalities

etc. etc.

Definitely agree! Scientific papers are hard for the lay person to read, but often info is taken from something and then it runs wild in the public, often twisting into something much different to the original idea.
